Skilled - Independent visas (subclass 175)
This permanent Australian visa is for people with
skills in demand in the Australian labour market and is available to people who
score the pass mark in the points test. To submit an application for the Skilled
Independent visa you do not require sponsorship from family in Australia or from
the Australian Government.
If your application for this Australian visa is successful
you will be granted
permanent residence in Australia, meaning there are no limitations
on where
you can live or the type of work you can undertake.
To make a successful application for the Skilled Independent
visa you must
satisfy the following basic criteria:

Age - you must
be under 50 years of age.

English language
- you must be able to show that you have sufficient
English language ability.
·
Qualifications
- you must have post-secondary qualifications and
your skills must be assessed by
the relevant skills assessing authority.

Nominated occupation
- you must select an occupation from the
Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
that matches your qualifications and skills.
·
Recent work experience
- you must have been employed in an
occupation listed on the SOL for 12 months in
the period of 24
months immediately before your application is made.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements for
the Skilled Independent Visa
, you will also need to meet the minimum score in the
points test. Points are
awarded according to factors such as your age, level of
English language
ability, qualifications and work experience.
The current pass mark for the Skilled Independent
visa points test is 65 points.
